ABOUT GAME SPEED and SLOWER MACS RESCUE! is a real-time game, which means that it has to think about ALL of the galaxy, ALL of the time. This can be quite a task for some of the older Macs. If you're finding game play a bit sluggish, here are some things you can do to improve the speed: • Shrink the Main Viewer window down to a smaller size. In fact, if you're doing a long warp, close it entirely for the duration of the trip, and open it again when you reach your destination. • Close any windows that you're not using at the moment, such as the Command Console, the Long Range Scan, or the Status Report. You can always use the Window menu to bring them up again. • Turn the sounds off. • Don't need color? For a dramatic speed improvement, set your monitor to Black & White mode before launching Rescue! (but not while it's running; on-the-fly monitor switching in Rescue! is not yet reliable.) ABOUT COMPUTERS and STAR TREK™ RESCUE! is one interpretation of the venerable SpaceWar theme that's been a part of computers since the original Star Trek™ series first aired back in the sixties. With RESCUE! for the Macintosh I have attempted to inject a more action-oriented feel while still maintaining a meaningful mission for the Enterprise. Your comments on the game would be appreciated. Enjoy!
